Tor Harrison Portrait

Tor Harrison is a British born, Berlin based artist working in both clay and photography. SITU STUDIO are fortunate to offer a special collection of her ‘one of a kind’ hand built vessels.

Driven by the visual and the tactile, two forces that inform a strong reaction to objects, space, design and nature - Tor finds inspiration everywhere and there are clear threads that run through her work - a subtlety and depth of colour and tone, the play of light and shadow, organic lines and form.

Tor finds balance when dancing between life in nature and life in the city

"Growing up in Cornwall I love the feeling of awe you access surrounded by the monumental and tide-worn landscape, when there I feel a little more feral, salty and more connected to the seasons. When in Berlin, it’s like you embody your alter ego, a bit more sharply dressed, drawing inspiration and collective energy from the people, projects and architecture around me".

"The separation between work, life and art is quite blurred, I can find creative expression in everyday moments, photographing a strip of light on my living room wall, or something I’m drawn to out on a walk. It can be the process of sculpting clay, hours sat in quiet meditation just making. The end result just as important as all the steps it takes to get there. Both photography and ceramics have multiple processes involved, requiring a particular kind of patience giving a kind of prolonged gratification. They also both have chemical reactions that take place in the developing and firing stages respectively - adding a collaborative element to the work that allows for magic and mistakes”.

"I am newly a mother, and this creation has been the most profound of my life. My son is nearly 6 months old as I write so I’m really in the beautiful chaotic mess of it all. I have the luxury of a supportive partner and so far have been able to focus all of my time and energy on my child and transitioning into this new phase of life. The idea of luxuriating in hours of unplanned making seems like a world away right now and I’m sure balancing being a mother and a creative is going to be challenging but I have the flickers of ideas of things I want to make and try and I know that the time for it is right around the corner. I want to get reacquainted with my former creative self but also redefine who I am in the light of this new experience. I also can’t wait to create and make with my son".
